CoCoRaHS, the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, is community-based network of volunteer-run precipitation observation stations stretching throughout the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas. The primary aim of the CoCoRaHS program is to increase the density of accurate, high-quality precipitation data, which is then used by a wide variety of organizations and industries such as the National Weather Service, emergency management, and research. At Cornell, the student-run CoCoRaHS station is currently operated by MetDat, which falls under the Cornell Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (CCAMS) with the goal of improving precipitation observations in the region and educating students on the scientific processes involved in conducting CoCoRaHS measurements and reports.
